Anointing the Sick

Anointing of the Sick: Anointing of the Sick (previously referred to as “Last Rites” or “Extreme Unction”) is not restricted to the end of life but rather those who are gravely ill or about to have surgery. This sacrament is best when received when the candidate is alive, conscious and able to participate and should not be delayed. Anyone seriously ill, anticipating surgery or weakened due to illness or advanced age, homebound or in a nursing home, is encouraged to receive this sacrament as soon as possible.
